Below is a set of helpful resources for anyone new to Sudbury. If you need guidance beyond what's listed, you can contact us for support.

  • Settlement Services

    YMCA: Free, confidential newcomer support with multilingual staff. They assess needs, create settlement plans, provide local information, connect you to services, arrange language assessments, and offer English conversation circles and community activities.


    Sudbury Multicultural and Folk Arts Association: Helps with accessing services, education, housing, translation, and obtaining identification.

  • Housing

    With rising costs due to inflation, housing and renting can be expensive. The main rent-geared-to-income program in Sudbury is run by the Greater Sudbury Housing Corporation. Other property rental companies to look at are: Panoramic Properties, Zulich Rentals, Rock Solid Property Management and The Jordan Group. We also recommend finding yourself a reliable real estate agent who can work with you to find the best place for you to live!

  • Daycare

    Daycare for children aged 0 to 4 is accessed through the OneHSN Sudbury Child Care Application (705-674-4455 ext. 4279, childrenservices@greatersudbury.ca

  • Schooling for Children

    Schooling for JK to Grade 12 is offered through four boards: Rainbow District School Board (Public English and French Immersion), Sudbury Catholic District School Board (Catholic English and French Immersion), Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (Catholic French), and Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord (Public French). Student transportation is coordinated through the Sudbury Student Services Consortium (705-521-1234)

  • Post-Secondary Education

    For post-secondary, Cambrian College provides immigration advising (1-800-461-7145 ext. 7841), Collège Boréal offers settlement services (705-918-5045) and Laurentian University provides international student support (705-675-1151)

  • Employment

    There are a number of employment agencies that can assist you in finding work. These include: Spark Employment, Employment Options, Northern Vocational Services and YMCA Employment Services. Many of these will assist in giving you skills and training needed by employers, writing resumes and preparing for interviews. Major employers in Sudbury that you can also investigate include Day Construction, Vale, Health Sciences North, Cambrian College and Xstrata.

  • Healthcare

    To access free healthcare in Ontario, you need Ontario Health Insurance Plan coverage. Full-time workers on a valid work permit can qualify. Many employers and all post-secondary institutions offer additional health benefits. The YMCA provides confidential, free mental health services for immigrants. The Youth Wellness Hub at the YMCA offers free physical and mental healthcare for individuals aged 12–25.

  • Transportation

    Driving: You need a valid Ontario driver’s licence. Some international licences may speed up the process. Contact DriveTest Ontario for details.


    Transit: Sudbury Transit runs throughout the city. Plan routes in Google Maps. Pass options vary. To get to All Nations Church, go to the Transit Terminal, then take Route 10 and get off at Howey and St. Raphael.


    Taxis/Rideshare: Aaron Taxi, Lockerby Taxi, and uRide are available. They are faster but usually more expensive than transit.

  • Recreation

    Science North offers interactive science exhibits, a butterfly gallery, and an IMAX theatre. Dynamic Earth provides hands-on learning about Sudbury’s mining history, including an underground mine tour. Ramsey Lake and Bell Park offer outdoor activities and waterfront trails. The Sudbury Theatre Centre hosts live performances throughout the year. Local sports options include Sudbury Wolves hockey and Sudbury Five basketball at the Sudbury Community Arena.
